Taps & Apps: Mililani beer lovers have a new place to hang out. Taps & Apps opened April 16 between the Navy Federal Credit Union and Wingstop at 95-1830 Meheula Parkway.
Besides the 36 craft beers on tap, GM Chris Overton, whose family owns the bar, said they also have changing daily food specials such as the BBQ pulled pork sandwich ($12) and pork belly breakfast pizza ($14).
The restaurant’s Taps & Apps burger is proving popular. It’s a half-pound burger made with New York strip and chuck cuts, ground in-house and covered with Gruyere cheese, grilled onions and a spicy aioli sauce.
Chef Daniel Kawamoto of the shuttered Brasserie Du Vin has taken over the kitchen of this Central Oahu pub. Hours are 11 a.m to 2 a.m. daily. Call 626-8277.
Da Hub: Looking for ono plate lunches? Da Hub in Kalihi offers a variety of plates for less than $10. Can’t make up your mind? Get the Kanak Attack ($10.95), which consists of fried shrimp, fried ahi, katsu nuggets, tossed salad, two scoops of rice and a choice of drizzles (sweet chili mayo, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, miso fusion, sweet ginger sauce and their secret sauce). The eatery also serves poke bowls ($8) and more.
Da Hub, which opened April 1, is at 1328 Middle St., across the street from Fern Elementary School. Hours are 3 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Call 847-7653.
Mission Social Hall & Cafe: For downtowners who are looking for local sustainable food, head to Mission Houses Museum, where the Pili Group opened an eatery last month.
Though expected to become fully operational late last year, the cafe had some staffing changes and began operations in April.
Surrounded by a relaxing setting, chef Mark “Gooch” Nogu-chi has concocted a menu consisting of a small selection of antipasti ($6-$12), sandwiches ($7-$9), soups and stews ($6-$8), and desserts ($2-$5). Among the items are kalo, kajiki (blue marlin) BLT, luau stew and kulolo. Combination plates are also available for $11. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 447-3913.
Kado’s 1st Street Kitchen: Early risers can find hearty plates at Kado’s, 829 Lehua Ave. in Pearl City. The joint opened in January and has been satisfying breakfast cravings for under $10. The Hawaiian plate ($8.50) consists of Portuguese sausage, luncheon meat, ham, bacon and two eggs all on a bed of rice. Oh yeah, and can’t forget the mac salad with that. If breakfast isn’t your thing, lunches such as hamburger steak, kalbi, spam watercress, grilled cheese and more are also available early in the morning. Hours are 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Call 312-4247.
Crackin’ Kitchen: The seafood restaurant opened last weekend at 364 Seaside Ave. in Wai-kiki, with shrimp, mussels, crab and more being sold by the pound. The ultimate combo ($70), the eatery’s signature dish, features shrimp, clams, calamari, mussels and snow and king crab with three signature sauces. Side dishes are available for $5; there are beer and cocktails, as well. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Call 922-5552.
Aka’s: A Japanese eatery has taken Kissaten’s former spot at Restaurant Row, serving musubis and bentos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The restaurant hopes to have its grand opening at the end of this month.
